The Ultimate A-Level Study Plan: 12-Week Countdown to Exams

By Ms Cheng·2025-10-15·11 min read

With 12 weeks to A-Levels, every day counts. This week-by-week study plan from Sophia Education helps JC2 students organise their revision systematically across all subjects to maximise their chances of scoring A.

The 12 weeks before A-Levels are the most critical period of a JC student's academic journey. How you use this time will largely determine your final grades. At Sophia Education, we have guided hundreds of JC2 students through this period, and we have developed a proven 12-week study plan that balances depth of revision with breadth of coverage.

Weeks 1-3: Foundation Review

Use the first three weeks to review your notes from JC1 and JC2, identify your weakest topics in each subject, and create a master list of concepts you need to revise. Do not attempt past-year papers yet — focus on understanding and consolidating your knowledge first.

Weeks 4-6: Targeted Weak Area Practice

Focus intensively on your 2-3 weakest topics per subject. Work through textbook examples, then attempt practice questions. For each wrong answer, identify whether it was a conceptual error, a careless mistake, or a time management issue — each requires a different remedy.

Weeks 7-9: Past-Year Paper Practice

Begin timed past-year paper practice. Do each paper under exam conditions — no notes, no phone, strict time limit. After each paper, spend equal time reviewing your answers and understanding your mistakes. Keep an error log: write down every mistake and the correct approach.

Weeks 10-11: Intensive Revision

Return to your error log and revise every topic where you made mistakes. Do additional practice questions on these topics. At this stage, you should be doing 1-2 past-year papers per week per subject.

Week 12: Consolidation and Confidence Building

In the final week, do not attempt new topics or difficult questions. Review your summary notes, practise key formulae and definitions, and ensure you are physically and mentally prepared. Get 8 hours of sleep every night. Eat well. Exercise daily.

💡

Study Tip: Use the Pomodoro technique — 25 minutes of focused study followed by a 5-minute break. After 4 cycles, take a 20-minute break. This maintains concentration and prevents burnout.
