PSLE Preparation Timeline: What to Do in Each Term of Primary 6

Many parents make the mistake of waiting until Term 3 or 4 to intensify PSLE preparation. By then, there is not enough time to address fundamental weaknesses. At Sophia Education, we recommend starting structured PSLE preparation at the beginning of Primary 6. Here is the term-by-term plan.

Term 1 (January-March): Foundation Building

Identify weak topics from Primary 5 results and address them systematically. Build strong foundations in Mathematics (fractions, ratio, percentage, speed) and Science (systems, cycles, interactions, energy). For English and Chinese, focus on vocabulary building and regular reading.

Term 2 (April-June): Syllabus Completion and Practice

Complete the Primary 6 syllabus by end of Term 2. Begin attempting school-level practice papers. Focus on understanding question types and developing answering techniques. The June holidays are a critical period — use them for intensive revision, not just rest.

Term 3 (July-September): Intensive Practice

Begin timed past-year PSLE paper practice. Aim to complete at least 3 full past-year papers per subject. After each paper, review every wrong answer and understand the correct approach. The Preliminary Examination (usually in September) is a critical diagnostic — use your results to identify remaining weak areas.

Term 4 (October-November): Final Consolidation

Focus on your weakest areas identified from Prelim results. Do not attempt new topics — consolidate what you know. In the final 2 weeks, review key formulas, definitions, and answering techniques. Ensure your child is getting adequate sleep and maintaining a healthy routine.
